Ushguli and neighbouring villages with centuries-old Svan Towers are themselves a sight to behold, attracting people from civilization. Ushguli has 5 churches, the most important being Lamariya - the Church of the Virgin Mary, built at an altitude of 2200m. The temple was built on the site of a pagan church in the 12th century.
It is worth noting that tourists visiting Ushguli fall into a condition when any action seems pointless. One doesn't want to do anything in the mountains, one just sit, watch and think about something. Only Ushguli is where one realizes that yoga, meditation and state of nirvana can be found only in high mountains
